New report about Game of Thrones season 7 directors and the character that Jim Broadbent might play
Game of Thrones season 7 filming is taking place in Spain and Northern Ireland at the moment, with some really sensational pieces of information coming out almost everyday. Now that the preparations for filming are already nearing their end as the cast and crew get ready to focus on other parts of Spain, Watchers on the wall has obtained some new information on that front. Since Game of Thrones season 7 is only going to have 7 episodes this time, a lot of the previous directors are returning. This includes Alan Taylor, Jeremy Podeswa and Mark Mylod, who will be joined by a new director Matt Shakman. There had been an official announcement regarding the directors lined up for season 7, but we didn’t really know which episodes they would be directing.
Director Jeremy Podeswa, who handled episodes 5 and 6 of season 6 will be directing the season premiere and the season finale of season 7. Podeswa also received an Emmy nomination for his outstanding work as a director on Game of Thrones, so we can expect some great stuff in the aforementioned episodes. Furthermore, episode 2 will be directed by Mark Mylod, while episode 6 will be directed by Alan Taylor. Episode 5 will be handled by Matt Shakman, but we are not completely certain on that part. Game of Thrones usually assigns two consecutive episodes to one director, but it appears that this time there have been some changes.
In other news, a new character from A Song of Ice and Fire series will be joining the show, that of Archmaester Ebrose. Although Ebrose doesn’t have a lot of focus in the books, just as a refresher, he’s the maester in the Citadel, mostly mentioned in conjunction with his area of expertise – healing- and his distinct silver mask and rod. Here’s a picture of him to make it clear:
Ebrose was seen in A Feast of Crows, described as having a “soft voice and gentle hands.” When Qyburn remarks on his own healing skills, he compares himself to Ebrose, saying that as a maester, he was “as skilled a healer as Ebrose, but aspired to surpass him.” The Citadel has been quite the focus for a while now since Samwell Tarly arrived at Oldtown and was last seen in the vast library. A lot of us speculated that he’s going to come across a maester like Marwyn the Mage or Walgrave , and it could well be Archmaester Ebrose. However, the question remains as to why a ‘healer’ might be required. That question can be answered with the fact that we have a character in dire need of a healer, that is Ser Jorah Mormont who has Greyscale. Maybe Jorah might feel the need to visit Ebrose to cure his condition.
Although there is no confirmation on what actor will be playing Ebrose, we can assume that its Jim Broadbent, whom we previously reported was cast for a significant role in Game of Thrones. Broadbent could well play Ebrose given the description.
Let us know in the comments what you think Ebrose might be doing in Game of Thrones season 7.
