After that very cruel and heart-wrenching death of Hodor that the makers of Game of Thrones unleashed upon us, it’s safe to assume that none of us dedicated fans have managed to forget our beloved character. Hodor’s death was the most unusual one on the show to date, and with the concept of Bran time travelling and ultimately leading to Hodor’s death while the latter held the door to save Bran and Meera from the Wights, it became all the more interesting, painful nonetheless.
The name ‘Hodor’ being a shortened version of ‘Hold the Door’, marked a very important Game of Thrones iconic phrase, and some people wondered how something like this could be explained in other languages. Since Game of Thrones fans have an answer to almost everything, Imgur user HooptyDooDooMeister created a series of images where the phrase can be translated in 22 other languages, including ‘Houd de door‘ in Dutch, which sounds similar to ‘Hold the Door’. The Polish version was a long phrase that said, ‘Hold the dead as long as you can‘. Check out the pictures below and do let us know if the user has correctly used the phrase in your language:
