Game of Thrones season finale, the Winds of Winter, has broken a viewership record as reported by Zap2it. The episode has the highest same-day viewership record, after breaking that of season 5 finale. The explosive finale episode of Game of Thrones season 6 gathered about 8.89 Million viewers. Season 5 had 8.11 Million viewers during it’s final episode, ‘Mother’s Mercy’, which was clearly broken by that of season 6.
Earlier, we recorded the highest viewership for the show in the 9th episode of this season, Battle of the Bastards, and it had a 10/10 rating on IMDb as well, which made it the highest rated episode of all time. The Winds of Winter also had a similar rating, and the fact that this season has had such action-packed tracks and eventful episodes, the viewership rise is not as surprising.
The latest episode was actually quite epic as we all know it, and people all across the globe seem to agree to it seeing the amount of viewers it has had in this episode. Game of Thrones has broken records in previous seasons as well, but this season has been particularly rewarding for the HBO drama, making it one of the most watched shows of all time, with the addition of it attracting new viewers since the first season through streaming and video on-demand as well.
