Liam Cunningham talks about Davos’ confrontation with Melisandre in Game of Thrones season 6 finale
Just before the Battle of the Bastards began, Ser Davos Seaworth came to know about a horrible truth. While walking around the camp, he happened to come across the place where Shireen Baratheon was sacrificed to the Lord of the Light by Melisandre and he found her burned Stag, which he had gifted to her. This revelation came as a huge shock to Davos as he didn’t think that Shireen would be killed by the very people who were supposed to keep her safe. But before he could do anything, the the war horns were sounded.
But now that the battle is over, Davos is not going to let Melisandre get away with the terrible and ghastly act that she committed. Liam Cunningham, who plays the role of Davos Seaworth on the show talked with Tech Insider about the confrontation that we are going to see in the season 6 finale and what that means for his character. Liam Cunningham said, “It’s a punch to the chest. Especially after what happened in the first couple of episodes of this season, when he’s almost trying to repair the relationship between the two of them.”
Even when Stannis Baratheon was alive, Davos never supported Melisandre’s ways of achieving things and he always tried to convince Stannis to think twice before acting on Melisandre’s advice. In the past Davos had helped Gendry to escape before Melisandre could burn him and he didn’t even know Gendry well. So now when he found out that Melisandre burned Shireen, we can understand what a huge shock it must have been for him. Finally when Davos was trying hard to forget their differences and work together with Melisandre, he came to know about the dark secret about what happened when Stannis marched towards Winterfell.
He further said, “[Davos and Melisandre] team up at the beginning of [season six] and the audience knows what she’s done to the one person who means so much to him, who meant so much to him. That’s what’s brilliant about the writing the audience were in possession of that information but he wasn’t. Now he is and we’re going to see at some stage a confrontation of sorts […] so that should be interesting, where that goes.”
The confrontation between Davos and Melisandre is going to be interesting and we would love to see how Jon Snow reacts, when he comes to know about the truth.
