I don’t think many people are aware of this but Isaac Hempstead Wright, the actor who portrays one of the most loved and crucial characters on the show, Bran Stark, was only 10 years old when he was given the role of Bran Stark. Like any other 10 year old, he joined it because he wanted to wear funny clothes and have fun.
In Isaac’s own words, “It was my sense of normality to just go off to Belfast and dress up in a funny costume and hang out in a woodland and play this strange character. It became this strange summer camp.”
The actor was recently in Singapore to promote season six and he told Straitstimes that it was only during season 5 that he realized how big the show is and grandeur he is a part of. “It was quite nice to be able to sit back for a year and watch it as a fan and see the beast from afar. That year particularly, you saw how massive the show had become.”, he said.
What helped him keep himself grounded was probably that after shooting every season, he went back and led a normal life, living in a tiny village in the middle of rural England. When he came to Singapore and saw women going crazy for him was something he had never experienced before. He expressed his amazement and said that, “Seeing these layers of screaming girls is something I haven’t experienced before.”
He also spoke about his experience with the gore and violence on the show and said that, “When you’re on set and you see it’s this weird prosthetic head and you juggle it about and play with it, you realise it’s all make-believe. From a child’s perspective, it was good to demystify the whole violent part of TV altogether.”
