The much talked about Sansa Stark wedding night rape scene is not only etched in the mind of fans but even the actors cannot get over it. Recently, in an interview with news.co.au, Alfie Allen, the actor who played Theon Greyjoy on the show, talked about the rape scene and said that the day of the shooting of the rape scene between Sophie Turner and Iwan Rheon was a dark day on the set. He added that, “I don’t really want to talk about (the show’s violence) all that much- but the season five scene that was the wedding night between Ramsay and Sana was a horrible day to shoot.”
He also spoke about how amazing Sophie Turner is in both her profession and as individual and added that, “Sophie Turner is just such a mature, amazing lady that brings life and light on the set in so many ways but it was a hard day. It was a really horrible day but Sophie really dealt with that issue very, very well.”
The scene which has already been tagged as ‘disgusting’ and ‘unacceptable’ by viewers around the world, shows Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, being raped by Ramsay Bolton, played by Iwan as Theon Greyjoy watches the entire thing reluctantly, in tears.
Some fans also completely boycotted the show after watching the rape scene but since the show is full of gruesome, horrible scenes showing merciless violence, Alfie spoke about why the this particular scene sparked so much controversy, even more than Shireen Baratheon’s death, who was burnt alive by her own father (Stannis Baratheon) for power. Alfie acknowledged the fact that the rape scene caused much more controversy and said that both the scenes are not comparable. He added that, “I guess with that scene, it happens off camera and what you don’t see is always going to be more terrifying when you just leave it to imagination.”
